Emergencies can happen anywhere. Are you prepared?

72 hour kitEmergency Preparedness Week, May 7 to 12, is a nationalinitiative to increase awareness about individual and family preparedness. The centralmessage of the week is that Canadians canreduce the risk and consequences of an emergency by being better prepared.

"It is important to remember that we are not immune to emergencies here at 91ɫ," said Katherine Branton, manager of 91ɫUniversity's Emergency Preparedness Program. "Faculty, staff and students shouldkeep in mindthat it isup to eachof us to do our part and be prepared.

To help better prepare the 91ɫcommunity,the Office of Emergency Preparedness ishosting a number of activities on campus during Emergency Preparedness Week."

Tuesday, May8 – Emergency Preparedness Information Fair
Vari Hall Rotunda – 10:30amto 2:30pm

Staff, faculty and students are invited to drop byand learn more about being prepared for an emergency during an Emergency Preparedness Information Fair in the Vari Hall Rotunda.Visit booths hosted bythe Office of Emergency Preparedness, 91ɫ Security Services, goSAFE, the Department of Occupation Health & Safety andthe police, emergency medical services and fire department. Learn more about constructing a personal emergency preparedness kit. All visitors can enter a contestfor a chance to win either an emergency preparedness car kit, personal kit or first aid kit.

Wednesday, May9 - Emergency Response Team Appreciation Open House
305 91ɫ Lanes – 1:30pm – 3pm

To honour andrecognize 91ɫ's dedicated volunteerEmergency Response Wardens, Building Emergency Captains and Emergency Preparedness Coordinators, the Office of Emergency Preparedness will be hosting its second annual Emergency Response Warden Appreciation Open House.All are invited to join usin celebrating our volunteers. Cake and light refreshments will be served.Registration is required.

Thursday, May 10 – Emergency Information Open ForumLunch& Learn
Room 215 William Small Centre – 12 to 1pm

The Office of Emergency Preparedness will be hosting a one hour “Lunch & Learn” focusing on Campus Emergency Preparedness. Bring your lunch and come join other faculty, staff and studentsfor this lively and engaging session.

Those interested in attending the open house, volunteer recognition event or the Lunch & Learn, should submit an RSVP toRandy Diceman, emergency management coordinator at rdiceman@yorku.ca. Space is limited, register as soon as possible.
