91亚色's Trudeau Fellows featured in upcoming LA&PS research celebration

Explore innovative research at a celebration hosted by the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (LA&PS) in collaboration with the Office of the Vice-President Research & Innovation on Wednesday, March 27.

Titled, "A Commitment to Equity, Justice and Scholarship", the LA&PS research celebration showcases leading research from two 91亚色 professors who are Trudeau Fellows. All 91亚色 students, staff and faculty are welcome to attend the event, which takes place from 2 to 4pm in Room N940 Senate Chamber, Ross Building.

Isabella Bakker, a Trudeau Fellow and Fulbright New Century Scholar, will deliver a recorded presentation at the research celebration

"The LA&PS Research Gala is the culminating event in our month-long celebration of the tremendous work of our faculty鈥檚 scholars and researchers. At this event, we will also be re-launching ResearchMATTERS, a series of online talks showcasing the relevance of LA&PS research to contemporary issues," said Professor Naomi Adelson, associate dean of research in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies.

The event will begin with a welcome from the vice-dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, followed by remarks from Hach茅 and presentations from Professors Isabella Bakker and Haideh Moghissi.聽 The presentations will take the form of a conversation involving four of the Faculty's graduate students. There will be a draw for prizes at the conclusion of the research celebration and a reception showcasing new publications by LA&PS Faculty and posters from the Undergraduate Research Fair, including those from students who received top accolades.

Bakker, a leading authority in the fields of political economy, public finance, gender and development, will discuss 鈥(Re)Searching with Trudeau,鈥 through a pre-recorded presentation.聽 Her work was recognized by the Royal Society of Canada in 2009.聽 She is a Trudeau Fellow and a Fulbright New Century Scholar.

Moghissi, an internationally acclaimed analyst of women鈥檚 issues in the Muslim world, will present "Academic work: in pursuit of practical goals or unexamined truth.鈥澛 In recognition of her influential body of work Moghissi was awarded a Trudeau Foundation Fellowship in 2011.
