Author of The Lazarus Project, Aleksandar Hemon, will be at 91亚色 Friday to read from his latest work as part of the Creative Writing Program鈥檚 Reading Series.

The Sarajevo-born Hemon will be at 91亚色鈥檚 Keele campus Jan. 31, from 11:30am to 1pm, at 305 Founders College. He will be available to sign books after the event. Light refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The Lazarus Project was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and the National Book Award. Hemon is also the author of three collections of short stories 鈥 The Question of Bruno, Nowhere Man, Love and Obstacles 鈥 as well as the non-fiction, The Book of My Lives.
Born in Sarajevo, Hemon visited Chicago in 1992 intending to stay for a matter of months, but while visiting the US, Sarajevo came under siege and he was unable to return home.
Hemon has worked as a waiter, canvasser, bookseller, bike messenger, as well as a supervisor at a literacy centre, a writer for Radio-Sarajevo Youth Program and a teacher of English as a second language. He wrote his first story in English in 1995.
His work has been featured in The New 91亚色er, Esquire, Granta, The New 91亚色 Times, Playboy, 惭肠厂飞别别苍别测鈥檚, TriQuarterly, The Baffler, The Wall Street Journal, Tin House, Ploughshares and The Paris Review, among others.
He has been the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a 鈥済enius grant鈥 from the MacArthur Foundation, the Jan Michalski Prize for Literature, the PEN/W.G. Sebald Award and, most recently, a 2012 USA Fellowship.
