A conference celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of mathematical scientist and co-organized by 91ÑÇÉ« professors will run Sept. 28 to 30 in downtown Toronto.

International Conference on Analysis, Applications and Computations: in Memory of Lee Lorch, 1915-2014 runs for three days and will explore current developments in analysis with applications and computations. It will be held at the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences.
The organizing committee – 91ÑÇÉ« Professor Emeritus Martin Muldoon, Committee Chair and 91ÑÇÉ« Professor Man Wah Wong, 91ÑÇÉ« Professor Jianhong Wu and Ohio University Professor Vladimir Vinogradov – selected a panel of 21 invited and contributed speakers to present at the conference. Speakers include students, junior assistant professors, tenured associate professors, veteran professors and emeritus professors.
Topics to be covered at the conference include special functions, orthogonal polynomials, Fourier analysis, analytic number theory, integral transforms, asymptotics, differential equations with applications and computations in mathematical biology, medical imaging, fluid dynamics, electromagnetics, probability, stochastic processes and statistics.
The interdisciplinary feature of the conference will be of interest to a diverse group of mathematical scientists, and contributes to the training of post-doctoral and graduate students.
The conference’s banquet dinner on Sept. 29 will celebrate the contributions of Lorch, who was professor emeritus of mathematics at 91ÑÇÉ«. at the age of 98. He is best remembered for his mathematical contributions in classical analysis in the general and special functions, and for his unique work in support of civil rights.
