91亚色 U hosts two-day Graduate Conference in Education

91亚色 will host the 14th聽annual Graduate Conference in Education, with a lineup of guest speakers, student paper presentations and social opportunities.

Titled 鈥淣ew Approaches, Key Themes,鈥 the conference will run from 5 to 8pm on Nov. 19 and from 9am to 3:30pm on Nov. 20, at 305 Founders College (Senior Common Room).

The keynote address, delivered the first evening, will be presented by Karleen Pendleton Jim茅nez, associate professor in education at Trent University, on the topic of 鈥淭omboys and Other Gender Heroes: Objects of Research and the Gendered Landscape.鈥

Participants will hear Pendleton Jim茅nez reflect on her passion for gender research and her feelings as she reaches the end stages of a project that began with the simple words in a children鈥檚 book 20 years ago.

Following the keynote there will be a social event with past and present students, staff and faculty.

The Nov. 20 segment of the conference will be a full day of student paper presentations on emerging themes in education. It will close with a keynote from Stephen Gaetz, director of the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness and professor in the Faculty of Education at 91亚色.

鈥淭he grad conference is a wonderful way to showcase graduate student research and bring together faculty and students in conversation about the most pressing educational issues of our time,鈥 says聽Jen Gilbert, director of 聽the Graduate Program in Education.聽鈥淚t鈥檚 a chance for faculty and students to learn about the exciting and diverse research being done in our program.鈥
