An evening of food and discussion with 91ÑÇÉ« Professor Jin Haritaworn is planned for Nov. 23 in celebration of the book, Queer Lovers and Hateful Others: Regenerating Violent Times and Places (Pluto Press).
The event, which runs 5:30 to 7:30pm in HNES 140, is hosted by ACE (Accessibility, Community, Equity) at 91ÑÇÉ« – a student group at the University who organize events around issues of equality.
Haritaworn is a professor of gender, race and environment. In this book, queer subjects have become a lovely sight in the shadow of hateful others, who are fixed as homophobic and disposable.
Rather than an ‘in’ or ‘out’ sexual citizen, Haritaworn treats the queer lover as a transitional object that renders the shift between a welfare regime and a neoliberal regime palpable, and makes punishment and neglect appear as signs of care and love for diversity.
ACE organizes workshops, seminars and peer mentorship sessions designed to offer students social and emotional supports for success.
Light refreshments will be provided at the event, and the book will be available at the 91ÑÇÉ« Bookstore.
