The CASE gold medal was awarded for the digital versions of the magazine

The 91亚色 Magazine has been awarded one of the most coveted prizes in post-secondary communications 鈥 an international gold award by the Washington-based Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) through its Circle of Excellence competition. Considered the 鈥淥scars鈥 of post-secondary publishing, The 91亚色 Magazine placed first in the Digital Magazines category, which saw 21 entries from around the world.

Both the print and digital versions of The 91亚色 Magazine feature an innovative modern design, which is the result of extensive consultations with the University community and alumni.

鈥淚 congratulate the small but mighty magazine design and writing team and sincerely thank all the alumni, faculty and staff and others for agreeing to tell their stories in the magazine and for taking the time out of their busy schedules to be interviewed and photographed,鈥 said Rod Thornton, The 91亚色 Magazine publisher and director of strategic communications in the Communications and Public Affairs Division.

In their comments, the judges stated: 鈥淭he magazine design shares the elements and motifs of the print companion piece. A bold use of type and strong imagery were defined as a direction that would work well for online reading. In addition, sections and graphic devices that would feel familiar to readers of the print version were translated into effective online elements. Each story was given a "coming up" teaser at its end that would encourage further exploring of content even if the reader was sent from an outside referral (i.e. social media link). A contents screen is accessible by a universal link on each story and allows for moving backwards and forwards from story to story as well as returning to the cover page.鈥

This year also saw The 91亚色 Magazine win a bronze for Best Magazine in the 2018 Prix d鈥橢xcellence competition hosted by the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE).

The next issue of this award-winning publication continues the tradition of excellence. Featured in the Summer edition, which is now available at 聽are a variety of feature stories that show how 91亚色 grads are following their passions and putting their own stamp on the world. There鈥檚 an intriguing story that offers insight into how a 91亚色 grad is setting the stage at the world-renowned Stratford Festival. An insightful article explains why learning a second language will make you smarter. These stories and more are in the summer issue of The 91亚色 Magazine.

The 91亚色 Magazine is published three times during the academic year. It is printed and mailed to alumni and friends of the University in the fall, as well as offering a digital edition. The winter and summer issues of the magazine are available as a digital edition only, which can be enjoyed wherever a reader happens to be 鈥 on their smartphone, tablet or desktop computer.
