Welcome to the September 2018 issue of Innovatus

Welcome back to class and the start of the fall semester!

As part of our welcome to students and faculty, we have an interesting issue of Innovatus full of compelling articles. This month, we explore the power and potential of experiential learning, the talented faculty and staff in the Teaching Commons, the creation of digital assets from a number of organized research units at the University and offer an important announcement regarding an upcoming experiential education conference.

New faculty enjoy their own orientation to teaching and learning at 91ÑÇÉ« during a two-day event held at the start of the fall 2018 semester. .


ISCI, or the Integrated Science program, is a select, first-year program for high-achieving, dedicated science students. It allows participants the flexibility to add courses to their studies and serves as a teaching lab for faculty. .


What do you get when you put a class of budding athletic therapists together with a group of theatre students acting as patients? If you're the instructor for the Advanced Athletic Therapy and Rehabilitation course at 91ÑÇÉ«, you anticipate the experience will yield athletic therapy students with a better grasp of the uncertainties of examining and evaluating patients. .


Cherie Woolmer, a post-doctoral research Fellow at McMaster University, is a visiting educational developer at the Teaching Commons at 91ÑÇÉ«. Woolmer is sharing her expertise in faculty-student engagement. .


The Teaching Commons team is becoming well-known beyond 91ÑÇÉ«, specifically for their scholarly contributions to the study of teaching, educational development and course development. .


The Office of the Vice Provost Academic and 91ÑÇÉ« Libraries are engaged in a unique collaboration managing the digitization and mobilization of four primary source collections aligned with four of the University's research centres. The collections provide a rich, online resource. .


On January 22, 2019, the Experiential Education (EE) Symposium will celebrate and showcase the achievements of students who have participated in experiential education activities. The application window opens mid-October. .
