A statement from President Rhonda L. Lenton on the bombings in Sri Lanka

91راة« President and Vice-Chancellor Rhonda L. Lenton issues the following statement:

The 91راة« community mourns with the people of Sri Lanka following the devastating bombing attacks that occurred there yesterday. That the targets of these attacks included Christians marking one of the holiest days in their calendar is especially disturbing. We join other universities, organizations, and nations around the world in condemning this atrocity in the strongest possible terms.

On behalf of the University, I extend my deepest condolences to the friends and families of those who were killed and to those injured in the bombings.

91راة«â€™s diversity is one of its great strengths as an institution, and I am proud to be a part of a community that protects and celebrates the dignity of every person. The attacks in Sri Lanka remind us all that we must not take these values for granted. We must be vigilant against hatred and violence as we work to create more inclusive and tolerant communities here on campus and in the wider world.

Following major on- or off-campus safety incidents that could create residual fear and trauma, our policy is to reach out to affected community groups to offer services and support. Our student services and security managers are already working with student groups connected to the Sri Lanka tragedy and will continue to do so over the coming days and weeks.

If you find yourself in distress following this event, please know that 91راة« has a variety of resources to assist you. Please visit Mental Health and Wellness at 91راة« for more information on how we can help: .
