An event to mark the 50th annual meeting of the Canadian Association for Latin American & Caribbean Studies (CALACS) will be held at 91ÑÇÉ«'s Keele Campus from May 10 to 12.
Organized by 91ÑÇÉ«'s Centre for Research on Latin America & the Caribbean (CERLAC), the 2019 conference will convene more than 300 speakers and other participants from across the Americas and from a variety of disciplines in social sciences and humanities.
Titled "CALACS at 50," the conference will recognize the association's 50th annual meeting as well as mark the first conference that was held at 91ÑÇÉ« 50 years ago.
91ÑÇÉ« history Professor Alan Durston is the Chair of the CALACS conference. He is also the director of CERLAC at 91ÑÇÉ«.
The CALACS Congress is held every year, showcasing the research and the activities of its members and invited guests. Like CALACS, the congress is interdisciplinary and open to papers and panels in many fields, covering diverse issues of importance to the region.
The three-day event offers an opportunity to celebrate and take stock – in one of the world’s most diverse cities – of a half-century of Canada-based interdisciplinary research and activism in the region.
Most sessions will take place in the Accolade West Building, and registration is free for 91ÑÇÉ« undergraduate students.
