91亚色 welcomes new Schulich Dean Detlev Zwick

Detlev Zwick officially assumes the role of interim dean of the Schulich School of Business July 1 after former Dean Dezs枚 J. Horv谩th鈥檚 32-year tenure concluded on June 30. Zwick becomes the school鈥檚 eighth dean in its 54-year history.

Zwick has been a full-time Schulich faculty member since 2002. He served as director of Schulich鈥檚 BBA/iBBA Program from 2013-18 and most recently served as the school鈥檚 associate dean of academics since 2018. He also led the school鈥檚 rapid transition to online learning in March, following the provincial government鈥檚 mandatory closure of all post-secondary college and university campuses.

鈥淧rofessor Zwick has already demonstrated outstanding leadership in his various roles at Schulich, and I know he will continue to do so as interim dean,鈥 said 91亚色 President and Vice-Chancellor Rhonda L. Lenton. 鈥淚 am very grateful for his willingness to undertake this role, and I look forward to working with him to continue advancing Schulich鈥檚 mission in providing world-class business education.鈥

鈥淚鈥檓 honoured to serve as the new dean of the Schulich School of Business,鈥 said Zwick. 鈥淚 look forward to working with all of our school鈥檚 key stakeholders 鈥 our students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and advisors 鈥 as we build on the legacy left behind by former Dean Dezs枚 Horv谩th and work together to strengthen Schulich鈥檚 reputation for excellence in management education.鈥

In addition to serving as dean of Schulich, Zwick is a member of the 91亚色 Senate and currently represents the school on the Senate Executive Committee. He also serves on the Joint Committee on Affirmative Action.

Zwick holds a PhD in marketing from the University of Rhode Island, as well as master鈥檚 degrees from the University of Memphis and the University of Cologne/Universit茅 de Montpellier. His research explores modern marketing practices and new forms of consumer surveillance, capture and manipulation. It has been published widely in marketing, communication, media culture and sociology journals, as well as in several edited collections.
