They've advanced equity in health care, shaped policy, led communities and inspired change 鈥 and now 91亚色 community members are being celebrated for the contributions they鈥檝e made to Canadian society.聽
Presented annually by Canadian Immigrant magazine, the Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards recognizes inspirational immigrants who have made a positive impact on their communities since arriving in Canada.
The awards highlight achievements across sectors 鈥 from business and education to advocacy and the arts 鈥 and honour individuals whose stories reflect resilience, leadership and a deep commitment to community.
The 2025 Top 25 Canadian Immigrant award recipients with affiliations to 91亚色 are:聽
Rodolfo D. Lastimosa Jr., alum (BScN 鈥20)聽
Filipino-born health care leader Rodolfo D. Lastimosa Jr. is the associate director of care at Sienna Senior Living in Toronto. In his role, he works to advance compassionate, resident-centred health care while advocating for internationally educated nurses and elevating the nursing profession through leadership roles, including as president of the College of Nurses of Ontario Council.聽
His journey from newcomer to award-winning nurse highlights the challenges faced by immigrants in gaining recognition for their credentials, and his efforts now focus on improving care quality, supporting staff development and inspiring others through his commitment to excellence and equity in health care.聽
Liben Gebremikael, graduate of Schulich ExecEd (2010)
A street in Toronto鈥檚 Malvern neighbourhood now bears the name 鈥淟iben Way,鈥 a tribute to Liben Gebremikael, the founding CEO of TAIBU Community Health Centre. Gebremikael has led the organization for 17 years, advancing Black health and community well-being.聽
Originally from Ethiopia, Gebremikael has helped TAIBU become Ontario鈥檚 only Black-mandated community health centre, while also supporting more than 20 grassroots initiatives and serving in leadership roles such as chair of the Ontario Health Data Council.
Marwa Khobieh, community researcher with 91亚色 (2021-22)聽
After immigrating from Syria at age 22, Marwa Khobieh channelled the emotional toll of displacement into a career focused on advocacy and newcomer support and now leads聽the Syrian Canadian Foundation as executive director.聽
Khobieh has expanded the foundation鈥檚 reach through strategic partnerships and funding, including a $1-million grant to help refugees gain skilled trades certification, while also co-founding national resettlement efforts and supporting displaced Syrians through international aid work.聽
