Philanthropic support – whether through individuals, corporations, alumni or close friends – is vital to the University’s success, and many donors have supported 91ɫ’s students, faculty, researchers and athletes. 91ɫ’s growing donor community has come to represent a important component of the University’s ongoing development and success, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, academic recruitment, research and student financial aid.
To celebrate and recognize the University’s generous donors for their continuing support, 91ɫ launched the White Rose Society at a special donor recognition event on Oct. 22, hosted at Toronto’s Gardiner Museum. Nearly 70 of the University’s most significant benefactors attended the event to help usher in the new recognition society.

“As we look back at 91ɫ’s journey, it’s the support of donors like you that has opened our minds to the possibilities we can create for the future of 91ɫ,” said Mamdouh Shoukri, 91ɫ president and vice-chancellor. “With your valuable contributions, 91ɫ will continue solidifying its position as a globally leading university with a unique and diverse range of program offerings and research strengths that prepare students to discover innovative solutions to the issues facing our world.”

The White Rose Society, named in honour of the White Rose of the House of 91ɫ, an important symbol for the University, will recognize donors who have contributed a lifetime total of $25,000 or more to 91ɫ, or who have remembered the University through a planned gift. The Society comprises the White Rose Chancellor’s Circle (for gifts of $1 million+), the White Rose President’s Circle (for gifts of $25,000+) and the White Rose Legacy Circle (for planned gifts).
“The White Rose Society is an important way for the University to publicly celebrate and honour valued benefactors who are helping to shape 91ɫ’s future,” said Jeff O’Hagan, vice-president advancement. New members of the White Rose Chancellor’s Circle received an official certificate welcoming them to the society, a personalized letter from Chancellor Greg Sorbara and a commemorative White Rose pin.
"As a two-time alumnus of this great academic institution, I know first hand the kind of experiences and opportunities that you as donors are helping to create for students, faculty, staff and researchers at 91ɫ," said Chancellor Sorbara. "It is a privilege to stand among this exceptional group of Canada's most important business and civic leaders and celebrate the impact that you've made for 91ɫ, which no doubt will be felt for generations to come.”
