Black Alumni Network (YUBAN) relaunches with official kickoff during Black History Month

On February 13, the 91亚色 Black Alumni Network (YUBAN) marked its official relaunch with members of the executive team and alumni community.

More than a decade after a Black Alumni Network was founded at 91亚色, a group of current students, alumni, faculty and community members gathered to mark its relaunch as the 91亚色 Black Alumni Network (YUBAN). On February 13, YUBAN members and supporters celebrated the University network鈥檚 long-awaited revival, poignantly held during Black History Month at Aroma Espresso Bar near campus.

鈥淭oday, we are relaunching as 91亚色 Black Alumni Network with a mission to connect 91亚色鈥檚 Black alumni with present and future students while celebrating our accomplishments,鈥 said Tiffany Ford (BA 鈥06), YUBAN Chair, and CEO & Strategist at Ford Global Group Inc. 鈥淥ur goal is to create a strong and supportive network within 91亚色鈥檚 family.鈥

The evening was an opportunity for attendees to network with members of the YUBAN executive team and alumni community, and to learn more about YUBAN鈥檚 campaigns and initiatives. 鈥淲e want to be the network in which 91亚色鈥檚 Black student groups, Black alumni, faculty and community can share resources,鈥 said Ford.

Other speakers included Michael A. Eubanks (BA 鈥93), Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, LCBO, and member of the 91亚色 Alumni Board, who kicked off the event with opening remarks. Dr. Andrea Davis, Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Humanities, shared insights from the Black Canadian Studies Certificate, of which she is also coordinator.

The 91亚色 Black Alumni Chapter (YUBAC) was founded in 2008 by former President Velma Morgan (BA 鈥95, BED 鈥97), along with executive members Konata Lake (BBA 鈥03, MBA/LLB 鈥08) and Michelle Hughes (BA 鈥94). The newly relaunched YUBAN will continue to strengthen the connection between alumni and current students, provide mentorship and networking opportunities, and engage with the community through professional and University-related events.
