Director: Thelma McCormack
Thelma McCormack is a Professor Emerita at 91亚色. She is the former President of the Canadian Sociology and Anthropology Association and the Canadian Women鈥檚 Studies Association. Her areas of interest include communication, political sociology and health. Professor Thelma McCormack recieved an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin and completed her graduate work at Columbia University. In addition to 91亚色, Professor McCormack has taught at many North American universities, as well as the University of Amsterdam and Hebrew University, Jerusalem.
During the聽1992 - 1993聽academic year, a significant part of the Centre鈥檚 work focused on consultation and in-house services supporting students, staff and faculty at 91亚色.聽 However, CFR also worked on the planning and funding of the conference 鈥淕ender Issues and Refugees: Implications for Development鈥.聽 The Centre also supported the National Action Committee on the Status of Women in updating its statistical data on women in Canada.
This period marked several important dates for the 91亚色; accordingly, the Centre hosted several celebrations.聽 In September, the Centre hosted a reception for聽Dr. Susan Mann, 91亚色's new, and first woman, president.聽 During the following month, the Centre hosted a one-day celebration in honour of the Graduate Programme in Woman's Studies which was celebrating its thirtieth anniversary.聽 An additional celebration was hosted in honour of the 200th anniversary of the publication of Mary Wolstoncraft's聽A Vindication of Women's Rights.聽
On February 11th, the Centre for Feminist Research celebrated Black History Month with a presentation featuring 91亚色 alumna June Clark-Greenberg. June Clark-Greenberg presented a slide show of her work and a discussion of 鈥淭he Black Aesthetic." The event was held at 91亚色 Lanes, Room 305, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
The year concluded with a mini-conference on Women and the Furture of the Welfare State organized by Pat Evans. The conference included a panel discussion with Shelia Neysmith, Ester Reiter, and Tanya das Gupta.
