  • Faculty of Education welcomes two new professors 鈥 Welcome to associate professor Korina Jocson and assistant professor sava saheli singh who joined the Faculty on July 1. Read article

  • Assistant professor Vidya Shah was named Mentor of the Year as part of the 2022 Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) Leaders and Legends Awards 鈥 The award acknowledges exceptional support, guidance and encouragement to the OISE community.  

  • Assistant Professor Gabrielle Moser and MEd student Jeffrey Newberry will present on their strategies for collaborating with high school co-researchers -  The presentation will be part of the SSHRC-funded project 鈥淧hotography and Biopolitics鈥 at the annual meeting for the Universities Art Association of Canada (October 27th) at the University of Toronto as part of the panel "Ethics and Responsibility in Research-Creation Practices鈥.

  • National Day for Truth and Reconciliation events are now available to view online 鈥 On Sept. 29 and 30, the 91亚色 community gathered to reflect on the legacy of Canada鈥檚 residential school system. The archives of the livestreamed events are now available to view including the recording of a panel discussion moderated by professor Susan Dion entitled 鈥淩eflecting on the Legacies of Residential Schools: What it means for our present and our futures鈥.

  • Congratulations to seconded faculty member Monica Diaz-Greco on winning a H.O.P.E. Award from Epilepsy Toronto - The award is given to individuals or organizations that have done outstanding work to support people living with epilepsy; have spearheaded advancements in epilepsy care or have led groundbreaking research in epilepsy.

  • #ANightforIS - In March 2018, secondee Monica Diaz-Greco founded Emma IS, a campaign to further awareness of Infantile Spasms, a degenerative and rare form of epilepsy. Named after her daughter, Emma IS has quickly become a place of support for other families going through their own IS battles, as well as an organization to further epilepsy awareness in the community. This year鈥檚 event will take place on Friday, November 25 at Paradise Banquet Hall.

Student Services Office
  • The Faculty of Education met with over 800 prospective students at the Ontario Universities鈥 Fair Oct 1st and 2nd.  It was great to be back in person at the Fair chatting with students and families about the programs offered by the Faculty.  The ED booth was supported by FESA students, faculty and staff

Graduate Program Office
  • Launch of YU-Write Journal of Graduate Student Research in EducationYU-WRITE: Journal of Graduate Student Research in Education (YU-Write) is a student-run, non-profit, open-access journal aiming to spotlight graduate students' research in education. The inaugural issue takes the title of last year鈥檚 YGSE conference theme 鈥渞e:鈥 in the production of engaging articles considering the significance of education in post-pandemic times.

  • Doctoral candidate Timothy Martin wrote a piece for The Conversation entitled 鈥淲ho is 鈥榯he public鈥 The answer shapes how we address homelessness鈥.

  • Congratulations to the following graduate students on being the recipients of the prestigious 2022 Prime Minister Teaching Award of Excellence

New Publications

  • Professor Susan Dion鈥檚 new book 鈥淏raided Learning: Illuminating Indigenous Presence through Art and Story鈥 draws on Indigenous knowledge to make sense of a difficult past, decode unjust conditions in the present, and work toward a more equitable future. 

  • Dean Robert Savage and co-authors Greta Boldrini and Amy C. Fox have published an article titled 鈥淔lexible phonics: a complementary 鈥榥ext generation鈥 approach for teaching early reading in Literacy鈥 in Literacy, the official journal of the United Kingdom Literacy Association.

  • Forthcoming book by Professor Kate Tilleczek titledYouth , Education and Wellbeing in the Americas鈥 is now available for pre-orders.

  • 91亚色 announces appointment of new chancellor - 91亚色鈥檚 Board of Governors appointed Kathleen Taylor as 91亚色鈥檚 14th chancellor to a three-year term, effective Jan. 1, 2023. The appointment follows outgoing Chancellor Gregory Sorbara, who is leaving the role after more than nine years of distinguished service.

  • Call for nominations: 91亚色鈥檚 Top 30 Alumni Under 30 - At home and abroad, 91亚色鈥檚 young alumni are making positive, impactful change. Nominations for the Top 30 Alumni Under 30 are open until Oct. 15.
