91亚色鈥檚 Global Research Excellence (GRE) Seed Fund supports investigator-led collaborations that have targeted outcomes while also affording 91亚色 research teams the ability to take risks and the versatility to work with leading universities, industry, government agencies, IGOs and NGOs from across the world. GRE supports all stages of international research of collaborations from co-creation to knowledge moblization.
The 2025-2026 GRE call has two funding Streams A & B. Please see below for detailed information on guidelines and applications for each GRE funding Stream. If you are planning to apply for funding in either Stream, please reach out to us beforehand.
In addition to GRE Streams A & B, the GRE ethos is also extended to how we support more early- stage international research opportunities at 91亚色. Some of these opportunities might not be ready for a GRE Stream A or B proposal yet. For example, 91亚色 welcomes many visitors from global institutions annually to discuss collaborative research. We are keen to support 91亚色 faculty organizing such visits to 91亚色 make the most of these interactions/visits. For more information on this, please see 鈥淥ther 91亚色 Internal Funding For International Research鈥.
GRE Stream A: Strategic Partnership Exploration & Development
Thank you for your interest in the GRE Fund. We are presently not accepting any new applications or expressions of interest for GRE Stream A until all expressions of interest/applications are evaluated based on eligibility, merit, institutional priorities, and the availability of funds.
Stream A supports 91亚色 faculty to developing research, capacity building, or knowledge mobilization projects with global collaborators.
This fund supports all stages of collaboration (exploration/development/deepening) of research-driven international partnerships with leading overseas collaborators.
GRE Stream B: Global Post-Doctoral Researcher Award
The Stream aims to help 91亚色 faculty strengthen their ability to conduct globally impactful research by collaborating with leading peers around the world to jointly attract and train top talent at the PDF/PDV levels.
This new GRE stream is also an institutional response to global developments that position Canada competitively to attract top international talent. We believe that the global competition for talent, addressing grand challenges, and international partnerships are synergistic. This approach will better empower us to drive change that benefits Canada and the world.
Please note, unlike some of the other Post-Doctoral Fellowships offered by some internal units at 91亚色, this is an investigator-driven initiative, i.e. graduate students/recent graduates are not eligible to be the applicant (see Eligibility Guidelines).
