This Concentration is the result of an educational partnership between the Department of Psychology and the School of Global Health at 91ÑÇÉ«. By completing 18 credits of approved electives offered by the School of Global Health, Psychology students can build a foundation in Global Mental Health. While Psychology students can complete this Concentration, Global Health students can pursue the Specialized Honours stream in Global Mental Health by taking approved courses in the Department of Psychology.
Mental health conditions are among the leading causes of distress and disability worldwide, yet they are often underrepresented in international clinical guidelines and global public health priorities. A key domain of Global Mental Health as a discipline explores how psychological therapies and approaches—shaped by cultural, social, and environmental contexts—can be enhanced for the treatment and prevention of mental health conditions across diverse populations, with a focus on health equity.

Psychology students pursuing this Concentration who wish to further explore interdisciplinary global health theory and research, multi-professional practice, and social justice values are encouraged to visit the School of Global Health website and current Academic Undergraduate Calendar for more information about the Minor in Global Health or Honours Double Major in Global Health and Psychology options. Future career paths: This Concentration provides foundational knowledge for students wishing to pursue further graduate studies (e.g., in clinical psychology, counselling psychology, psychotherapy, global health psychology, or socio-behavioural public health), professional degrees (e.g., MD, JD, LLB), post-graduate certificates and diploma programs at colleges and universities (e.g., mental health and addictions, community mental health, or global health policy), or to directly enter the workforce (e.g., in health promotion, non-governmental organizations, community mental health services).

Concentration Requirements
To earn this Concentration, you must complete at least 18.0 credits from the courses listed below, including the following required courses: GH 1010, 1011, 3500, and 4700. The remaining 3.0 credits must be chosen from the additional course options provided. A minimum average grade of C+ is required across all courses applied to the Concentration.
