The Undergraduate Research Participant Pool (URPP) allows students to earn a portion of their final grade by participating in psychological research studies. Participation provides an opportunity to learn how psychological research is conducted while earning credit toward a final course grade. URPP credits for course grade is available to students enrolled in HH/PSYC 1010, 2030, and more (please review your course outline to confirm availability).

Participating in URPP Study

To participate in a URPP study, you must first create an account in the URPP system, . This account allows you to browse available studies, register for studies that interest you and receive credit for your participation.
Please note that URPP is managed independently from course instructors and teaching assistants. Instructors and TAs do not have administrator access to the URPP platform and cannot answer questions about URPP operations, including credit allocation, password resets or study information. Please direct all URPP-related inquiries to urpp@yorku.ca
How the credit works:
Students in HH/PSYC 1010 can earn up to 4% of their final grade through participation, while students in HH/PSYC 2030 can earn up to 2%.
- Below is a brief breakdown of URPP credits students must earn:
- HH/PSYC 1010 6.00 Y: 8 credits for 4% of course grade
- HH/PSYC 1010 6.00 F or W: 4 credits for 4% of course grade
- HH/PSYC 2030 3.00 F or W: 2 credits for 2% of course grade
- Each hour of participation earns you 1 URPP credit.
- Credits do not carry over between courses. You need to earn your full credit total within your course鈥檚 URPP window.
- An alternative paper stream option is available, see below for more information.
Studies are posted gradually throughout the term, so it鈥檚 best to start early. Students who wait until the last few weeks sometimes can鈥檛 fit in enough studies to reach their full total.
Paper Stream Option
Most URPP courses offer a Paper Stream option that allows students to earn course credit by writing an assigned paper by URPP instead of participating in research.
For more details or to choose this option, please email urpp@yorku.ca by the deadline listed in your course outline. Late requests are not accepted. After you have registered for the Paper Stream option, you will receive detailed instructions and a grading rubric by email.
SONA System Manual & Participant Tutorial
