Department of History congratulates聽Marcel Martel and the organizing committee (Jennifer Stephen and Will Stos from 91亚色, plus Dimitry Anastakis of Trent U. and聽Matthew Hayday, U. of Guelph) for putting together such a stimulating聽conference last Thursday, Friday and Saturday on "Transformation: State,聽Nation and Citizenship in a New Environment", a conference that explored聽the future of political history. It was sponsored by The Avie Bennett聽Historica-Dominion Institute Chair in Canadian History, a chair which,聽as you all know, Marcel holds. It brought together francophone and聽anglophone faculty members and graduate students from across Canada, who聽gave a series of stimulating papers, which engaged the audience in聽lively debate. All in all, it was a stellar success.
The Department is also grateful for the gracious words of welcome聽provided by the Provost, Patrick Monahan, and Associate Dean (Research)聽Barbara Crow before G茅rard Bouchard's splendid keynote address on聽"Social Structure and Social Change: Why and How Culture Matters.聽Bringing Myth Back onto the Agenda".
