Marlene Murphy, the course instructor, is a producer in the CBC鈥檚 national newsroom in Toronto who works with reporters and editors across the country to provide daily news stories to local newsrooms.
Over the course of her career she has worked as a writer for CBC鈥檚 The National and CBC News Network, as well as in the CTV national newsroom. She has also published and presented research on internships at the CBC and presented a paper on how broadcast news organizations are shaping rules around social media use by staff.
Lise Lareau worked for CBC as a TV news producer for more than 30 years.听 For 10 of those years, she served as president of the Canadian Media Guild, the main union at the CBC and other media organizations including the Canadian Press, APTN, Vice Media and most recently Buzzfeed.听 
Since then, her work has focused on improving conditions for more precarious media workers.听She coordinates the CMG鈥檚 campaign to gain collective bargaining rights for those in the reality and factual TV production industry and serves on the federal government鈥檚 Labour Standards Advisory Committee.
91亚色鈥檚 School of Continuing Studies is launching a new Post-Graduate Certificate in Public Relations in September 2019.听 This 8-month program is ideal for Communication Studies graduates who are looking to get into the field of public relations/corporate communications.

Professor Anne MacLennan presented Can I? PSAs, changing public discourse, and Cannabis in Ontario at the Canadian Communication Association annual conference on June 4, 2019.
Professor Natalie Coulter has been researching the pressures girls feel to show happiness, specifically, in correlation to 鈥渇un鈥 slogan T-shirts for tween girls.
She spoke about how message T-shirts that emphasize smiling, being fun and looking happy 鈥 limit real feelings, at 91亚色 on June 8th.
Coulter鈥檚 talk was part of The 91亚色 Circle Lecture and Lunch Series, a free day of presentations by leading 91亚色 professors speaking about their research to an audience of 91亚色 students, parents of students, alumni, friends and neighbours of the university.
