Coding is a critical process in analyzing qualitative data in which data are sorted, labelled, and organized into thematic categories. Guided by the principles of the constant comparative method of grounded theory, we explore MAXQDA as an example of an accessible program that can be used in coding a variety of qualitative data including interviews, focus groups, text, videos, and audio files.
To get the most out of the workshop, participants should have a copy of MAXQDA. A trial version is available, please visit , and direct any questions to them. We cannot answer technical questions.
Professor Nancy Mandell, and doctoral students, Jana Borras and Janice Phonepraseuth, have been examining the settlement and integration challenges of newcomer youth, adults, and seniors in 91ɫ Region. They will be using data from this project to explore transcription, coding, and analysis of qualitative data.
The RCPS Methods Clinic is a monthly workshop on various social science methods-related topics. Clinics are open to faculty and graduate students who have experience with the method identified, are currently practicing it, or are considering it. Depending on the topic and facilitator, the workshop may cover a brief introduction to the method, epistemological and ethics issues, some practical instruction, and a discussion of tips, challenges, and strategies.
