
John Stone is the Serra Hunter fellow in English Literature at the Universitat de Barcelona (Spain). His current research centres on library formation and manuscript culture at the Royal Scots College, Valladolid, between 1770 and 1808. More broadly, in recent years he has worked on English as a language of culture in eighteenth- century Spain, with a particular emphasis on personal and institutional libraries, books and networks, and instances of direct English- to- Spanish translation. He has published a scholarly edition of Samuel Johnson’s Preface to Shakespeare in Catalan, as well as articles in the collections Samuel Johnson in Context (Cambridge UP, 2011), Anniversary Essays on Johnson’s Dictionary (Cambridge UP, 2005), Cultural Transfer through Translation (Rodopi, 2010) and The Eighteenth Century (Ashgate Critical Essays on Early English Lexicographers, vol. 5, 2012). His most recent journal pieces appeared in *Notes and Queries* and *Dickens Quarterly*.
