Disaster and Emergency Management professor shares expertise in CBC article on how wildfires affect back-to-school

Professor Ali Asgary headshot

Ali Asgary, professor in the Disaster and Emergency Management program, was consulted for an article in CBC about how wildfires are disrupting back-to-school activities for families in some regions of Canada. In Newfoundland, families have had to leave their homes and stay in evacuation centres, making it difficult for children to continue going to school during wildfires. Schools have experience managing disruptions due to snow, but wildfires are a newer issue that requires communication planning. Asgary shares information about how schools can prepare and plan, and how governments can invest in this issue.

Asgary is an expert in disaster, emergency and business continuity management and has been actively involved in research, teaching and professional activities in these fields since 1993.
