Department of Politics prof quoted in CBC on Trump’s recent visit to China

Gregory Chin, associate professor of political economy in the Department of Politics, was recently quoted in a CBC article examining U.S. President Donald Trump’s high-stakes visit to Beijing. The piece explores the face-to-face meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping against a backdrop of global tension and shifting power, with issues such as trade, Taiwan and the Iran conflict looming large. Chin emphasizes that the real story behind the summit lies not in what is promised publicly, but in the underlying power dynamics shaping the relationship.

Chin’s research focuses on the political economy of international money and development finance, as well as China, Asia, the BRICS and global governance. Spanning four decades, his work began in the early 1990s. Chin is a Non-Resident Senior Fellow with the Global China Initiative at Boston University’s Global Development Policy Center and the Foreign Policy Institute at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.
