Headshot of Gilberto Fernandes

Anthropologist Miguel Moniz and LA&PS historian Gilberto Fernandes have launched a new English-language podcast about Portuguese identity entitled Home is the Journey. The podcast aims to unveil complex issues affecting Portuguese people around the world, and will feature conversations on topics such as social justice, queer identities and historical events like Portugal's Revolution. Fernandes explains that they aim to create unique insights into the lives of their guests and listeners alike.

Fernandes is an academic, public and digital historian, curator, community archivist and documentary filmmaker based in Toronto. His work in public scholarship and digital humanities has focused largely on diaspora and migration, ethnicity and race, the construction industry and the unionized building trades, as well as public diplomacy, propaganda and other intersecting topics within the contexts of Canada, the United States and Portugal.
