Economics professor discusses the high cost of live events in YFile article

A recent YFile article discusses how ticket prices for live events continue to rise despite the government’s recent policies restricting ticket resale. While policymakers have tried to control ticket pricing by limiting resale, there are other factors that drive pricing inflation, with promotors, ticketing platforms, artists and even fans all shaping high price-points. The article discusses why ticket prices have become so high over time. 

Matthew Brzozowski, an associate professor in the Department of Economics, says that higher base ticket prices are the result of limiting resale markets. These increases can show up through things like priority access and add-ons such as insurance and VIP packages.
