Six Osgoode students awarded prestigious business law internships
TORONTO, Monday, April 30, 2018 鈥 Six students from 91亚色鈥檚 Osgoode Hall Law School have been selected for prestigious Hennick Centre business law internships that will pay them each $10,000 through to summer鈥檚 end.
The paid work placements 鈥 five of which are being funded by McCarthy T茅trault LLP 鈥 were arranged by the Jay and Barbara Hennick Centre for Business and Law, a joint initiative of Osgoode and the Schulich School of Business at 91亚色. The placements will provide full-time workplace exposure to the client side of legal practice from May through August for the five Osgoode Juris Doctor (JD) students and one JD/MBA student as follows:
- Madison Black, JD 鈥20, Mount Sinai Hospital
- Arjin Choi, JD 鈥19, Ontario Securities Commission (OSC)
- Aleeza Freedman, JD 鈥19, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)
- Rishi Nageshar, JD 鈥19, Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Ontario (IIROC)
- Ronen Nehmad, JD/MBA 鈥20, World Bank Group (Washington, DC)
- Jorgen Wong, JD 鈥20, FirstService Residential Ontario

The business law internships are part of the larger Osgoode Summer Internship Program that will see a total of 29 paid internship opportunities made available to Osgoode JD students in a broad range of categories from public interest law, health law, Aboriginal law, business law, feminist issues, environmental issues and more.

Waitzer, Director of the Hennick Centre for Business and Law. 鈥淥ur students will work under the active supervision of their legal staff and will assist with business law or commercial law-related assignments and tasks. These internships will provide the students with amazing mentorship opportunities.鈥
Launched in February 2009 with a major gift from Jay and Barbara Hennick, the is the first Canadian centre to promote and develop joint business and law scholarship and education.
The Hennick Centre business law internship program is open to Osgoode students who have strong academic credentials, have completed the first year of the JD program, and have a demonstrated interest in business and law.
The business law internship selection committee 鈥 made up of the Assistant Director of the Hennick Centre, Osgoode鈥檚 Manager of Experiential Education and Career Development, and a member of the faculty 鈥 identifies the best match between the students and placements, based on the stated requirements of the organizations.
