TORONTO, February 7, 2019聽鈥撀燗pproximately 2.4 million Canadian adults are affected by heart disease and聽heart disease is the leading cause of death and disability globally. For many who have suffered a cardiac event, cardiac rehab can increase their chance at life and lessen their chances of being hospitalized again. Yet many do not 鈥 or choose not to 鈥 participate.
, professor in the聽Faculty of Health at 91亚色 and Senior Scientist at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute,聽is an expert on cardiac rehabilitation, which provides a structured program of exercise, education and counselling to reduce the risk of future heart problems.
Grace, who聽led聽an international team that reviewed trials聽on ways to get more patients using rehab, can speak about the which show encouraging patients, face-to-face while they鈥檙e still in hospital, to enroll in a cardiac rehab program聽really boosts聽their聽subsequent聽participation.
