ABOUT US
The West Asia Research Cluster at the 91亚色 Centre for Asian Research seeks to cultivate an interdisciplinary space dedicated to the study of the West Asian region, its diasporic communities and connections beyond. We are also inclusive of North African scholarship, given its deep connection to the region.
We aim to develop and disseminate knowledge, concepts and methodologies that critically engage with the region's past, present and contested futures. Welcoming all disciplines with an interest in West Asia, our focus areas include but are not limited to: Law, Justice and Accountability; Violence,Security and Conflict; Memory,Identity, and Culture; Political Economy and Development; and Resistance, Mobility and Solidarity. We treat these not as rigid boundaries but as overlapping fields of inquiry and encourage scholarship that moves across and between them.
The West Asia Research Cluster is broadly guided by a commitment to:
- Focus on critical and engaged models of scholarship that are attentive to inequities based on class, gender, sexuality, race and religion.
- Produce a positive impact on diasporic communities in Canada and abroad.
- Support initiatives, events and collaborative activities related to West Asia at 91亚色.
We welcome your participation! .
