
Become a Bethune Peer Mentor! (May 2026 - April 2027)
Applications open April 27th - May 18th, 2026
Bethune College Peer Mentors are assigned a group of Mentees who are entering their first semester at 91亚色. Mentees could be coming from high school, transferring from another post-secondary institution, returning to studies as a mature student, or coming from another country.
Supporting Your Mentees
Peer Mentors start working with their mentees in the summer as soon as their mentees have enrolled in classes. New student enrollment runs from May to September.
Peer Mentors support their group of Mentees throughout the students' first year (from new student enrollment to end of Winter term) through the following means (including, but not limited to):
- Coordinating and facilitating meet-ups with their mentee groups
- Introducing mentees to campus services
- Attending campus workshops or events with their mentees
- Answering questions and triaging mentees to relevant supports
- Communicating regularly with their mentees over Teams
- Making them feel welcome at 91亚色U!
Supporting New Student Transition & Orientation
- Peer Mentors are expected to be present for the Faculty of Science Fall Academic Orientation Day - September 3, 2026
- Peer Mentors support new students at organized orientation tours, workshops, events, and more! New students join 91亚色U each semester (Summer, Fall, Winter)
Training, Professional Development, and Support
- Mandatory training sessions
- Meet regularly with the Program Coordinators
- Complete BC 3000 0.0 Introduction to Peer Leadership
Bethune College Peer Mentors are current undergraduate students in the Faculty of Science and Lassonde School of Engineering. Peer Mentors must have studied for at least one semester at 91亚色 at the time of their application.
If you have had positive experiences at 91亚色 and would like to help shape the experience of our new students and assist with their transition to university life, then this is the role for you!
It's a great way to get involved, meet new people, and to build skills!
Peer Mentors will receive ongoing professional development and support through BC 3000 0.0 Introduction to Peer Leadership.
Become a Bethune Peer Tutor! (September 2026 - April 2027)
Applications opening Summer 2026
Peer Tutoring is a Bethune College service that aims to help students in Science and/or Engineering gain an enhanced understanding of the concepts and material presented in class. Peer Tutors are volunteer, undergraduate students who have performed admirably in the courses that they tutor and aim to assist students to the best of their ability.
Bethune Peer Tutors are expected to:
- Provide a minimum of two regularly scheduled tutoring hours per week
- Attend monthly program meetings with the
- Be professional, inclusive and welcoming in your communication
- Communicate promptly and efficiently with the Peer Tutoring Program Coordinator, and/or Student Success Coordinator
- Complete all necessary scheduling polls and program-associated tasks assigned by the Peer Tutor Coordinator and/or the Student Success Coordinator
- Check the program Teams site frequently to ensure you are staying updated on program information
- Contribute to our overall mission of enhancing student engagement and academic success
- Participate in a mandatory orientation/training before starting your role
- Complete BC 3000 0.0 Introduction to Peer Leadership
If you are a current 91亚色U undergraduate student who has successfully completed any first or second year Science or Engineering courses with a minimum grade of A, and are interested in tutoring, we look forward to receiving an application from you.
Applications for Fall/Winter 2026-2027 will open in Summer 2026.
Bethune Peer Tutors gain skills in tutoring, coaching, and providing one-on-one / small group support. Becoming a Peer Tutor is also a great way to meet new people and give back to the community.
Become a Bethune Ambassador! (August 2026 - April 2027)
Applications opening Summer 2026
Bethune Ambassadors are the "face" of Bethune College and help connect Bethune affiliated students with relevant campus resources.
Bethune Ambassadors represent the College through the following means (including, but not limited to):
- Greeting people entering Bethune College from the Welcome Desk
- Answering questions and making warm referrals to appropriate resources
- Assisting with wayfinding
- Making in-class announcements about upcoming events and campus resources
- Tabling at special events
- Working with the Social Media and Marketing Peer to promote Bethune Support Services
- Supporting events hosted by the Bethune College Head Office
Bethune Ambassadors will receive:
- Mandatory orientation/training before starting your role
- Complete BC 3000 0.0 Introduction to Peer Leadership
Bethune Ambassadors are current undergraduate students who are affiliated with Bethune College.
If you are a current undergraduate student in either the Faculty of Science or Lassonde School of Engineering - then, you are a member of Bethune College! Learn more about the College system at 91亚色 at www.yorku.ca/colleges.
Bethune Ambassadors are volunteers who are ready to show their Bethune / 91亚色U spirit. Ambassadors should be friendly, approachable, respectful, and open to learning.
