Do you speak Turkish? Interested in a career as a conference interpreter? The MCI can help. We’re currently accepting applications from Turkish speakers for the academic year that begins in September 2015.
Candidate Profile
How do you know if you’re a good candidate for Turkish at the MCI? Ideally, you would be someone with a bit of professional experience who is ready to proceed directly into . In other words, you would have to pass our online Transition Exam. This test requires you to be able to interpret four speeches on a general (non-technical) topic:
One five-minute English speech, to be interpreted consecutively into Turkish;
- One five-minute Turkish speech, to be interpreted consecutively into English;
- One 10-minute English speech, to be interpreted simultaneously into Turkish; and
- One 10-minute Turkish speech, to be interpreted simultaneously into English.
You would also have to meet all the admissibility criteria as outlined on the page, “Applying to the MCI“. If you have no prior experience in interpreting and would nevertheless like to study at the MCI with Turkish, let us know. We’ll have you take our online If there is sufficient demand, we may also be able to offer courses with Turkish in Year One of the program.
Instructors
We’re very pleased to announce that Turkish-English conference interpreting courses will be taught by Dr. Ebru Diriker. Dr. Diriker is a triple threat: she’s a noted conference interpreter who has worked with the European Union, the G20 and other international organizations; she’s an expert interpreter trainer with decades of experience; and she is one of the leading researchers in the discipline of Interpreting Studies. We’re very happy to have her as part of the MCI teaching staff!
Of course, as a member of our Turkish team, you will also have classes, onsite work placements, special workshops and study visits with the students in our Arabic, French, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish language groups. In this way, you will benefit from the rich, that has become the Glendon trademark. You’ll also be coached by the members of our and by our broader team of part-time instructors.
