LA&PS Spotlights

Early Career Scholars: Anja Krstic
Early career scholars more than often bring diversity, innovation and cutting-edge research to their institutions. Last fall, , and Anja Krstic was among this new cohort who joined the School of Human Resource Management as an assistant professor. In this issue, we spotlight professor Krstic, her research interests and important contributions to the field.
鈥淥ne of my areas of research centers around parental leaves and the impact that they can have on women鈥檚 and men鈥檚 career outcomes,鈥 explained professor Krstic. Her research reveals the and gendered perceptions underlying these effects. For instance, 鈥渓onger parental leaves may undermine women鈥檚 career progression into management positions because they are viewed as less ambitious and committed to their work. On the other hand, parental leaves may aid men鈥檚 progression into management positions because they are viewed as warm and sensitive to others, characteristics that are seen as increasingly effective in management in today鈥檚 business landscape.鈥 Professor Krstic expands on these findings in this .
With that, Professor Krstic鈥檚 work identified and tested 鈥渨ays that women can take a longer leave without experiencing negative career outcomes, such as a corporate policy that provides women with the opportunity to 鈥渒eep in touch鈥 with the workplace while on leave.鈥 Her research accentuates that, while important, it is not enough to examine and document barriers that people may face in the workplace. Rather it should be coupled with testing solutions that can help people overcome these barriers. to know more about her work.
