The Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) has bestowed 91亚色 Professor Parbudyal Singh with its inaugural Distinguished Human Resources Professional (DHRP) Award.
Singh teaches in the School of Human Resource Management (HRM), where he previously served as director. The school, in 91亚色鈥檚 Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, is the largest university level institution in the field in North America.

鈥淚t comes as no surprise to learn that Dr. Singh has received this distinction from HRPA,鈥 says Professor David Doorey, current director of HRM. 鈥淧arbudyal is one of the hardest working, smartest, and most prolific scholars I have met. His devotion to the field is unparalleled. It is a privilege to work with Professor Singh and we are lucky to have him at the School of HRM.鈥
The DHRP Award is granted to those who have made a significant contribution to HR through developing and sharing innovative ideas, practices and policies; demonstrating a strong history of service to HR Associations and the broader community; and publishing work in their area of HR expertise. Singh, says the HRPA, is a leader in his field who embodies these criteria and more.
鈥淚 am thrilled and honoured to be the first recipient of this award,鈥 says Singh. 鈥淚 am grateful to all those who have helped me over the years, including my family, colleagues and students.鈥
Singh has more than 100 refereed publications, including articles in the leading HR management journals, and is co-author of two of Canada鈥檚 leading university textbooks in his field: Managing Human Resources and Strategic Compensation. He has been a recipient of several awards at 91亚色, including the Dean鈥檚 Award of Excellence in Teaching and the Dean鈥檚 Award for Outstanding Research.
Singh has also received several awards and grants, including those from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada. His most recent SSHRC grant as the principal and sole investigator, awarded this year, explores the role of entrepreneurship, human resource management and the organization鈥檚 performance. In another study, with colleagues in Europe and the United States, he is focusing on issues related to human resource management, environmental sustainability and firm performance. Singh was also recently appointed to a three-year term as a SSHRC Review Panelist for 鈥淏usiness and Related Studies.鈥
He has advised more than 30 of Canada鈥檚 leading organizations, and has also volunteered for organizations, such as the Government of Ontario, Pay Equity Commission, the HRPA, SSHRC and the 91亚色 Regional District School Board. In 2016, the Minister of Labour appointed Singh as one of four people to examine Ontario鈥檚 gender pay gap. The result was a 2017 report that laid some of the foundations for the government鈥檚 Women鈥檚 Economic Empowerment Strategy.
