
Kristin Andrews, a professor in the Department of Philosophy at 91ÑÇÉ« who specializes in animal ethics, was quoted in a recent article in Canadian Affairs. The article discusses a recent petition urging parliament to recognize that animals are sentient beings, rather than merely property. Andrews discusses what sentience means, how this applies to animal rights and how she hopes that sentience will be recognized morally and legally in society.
Kristin is a professor of philosophy at the CUNY Graduate Center, 91ÑÇÉ« Research Chair in Animal Minds and professor of philosophy at 91ÑÇÉ« (currently on leave) and CIFAR Fellow in the Future Flourishing program. She coordinates the Greater Toronto Area Animal Cognition Discussion Group, is on the board of directors of the Borneo Orangutan Society Canada, a member of the College of the Royal Society of Canada and the author of several books on social minds, animal minds and ethics.
