Ian Stedman, associate professor in the School of Public Policy, contributed his thoughts to an article in the Toronto Sun about politicians in Toronto who put up unofficial signage to promote themselves, also known as “shadow campaigning.” Stedman says that the lack of rules has normalized the practice and explained why incumbent candidates might use the tactic to promote themselves.

Stedman holds a PhD in law from Osgoode Hall Law School. His research interests include law and justice, science and technology, public sector ethics and accountability, as well as AI.
