We commit to recognizing 91亚色鈥檚 diversity as one of its core strengths and to promote a sense of shared purpose, respect and cooperation among our many communities.

This principle concentrates on the importance and prospective rewards of a university community as large and diverse as 91亚色鈥檚. Living well together requires cultivating strong, distinct communities within the University while also building connections, coalitions and social cohesion among them. Striking this balance allows individuals to experience a sense of belonging and camaraderie with similar others while also benefiting from a wider variety of views, values and approaches.
Converting diversity into a social good requires concentrated effort to build the interpersonal skills, intergroup dynamics and larger relational culture needed to sustain a heterogeneous, pluralist community. It also entails collective investment in each other鈥檚 rights and well-being irrespective of our similarities or differences.
Decisions and actions seeking to strengthen 91亚色鈥檚 communities should align with our priority to intergroup exchange, respect and cooperation.
Objectives
Build community around shared identities and interests that reflect and honour our diversity
Strengthen capacity of those with different views to study, learn, work and live together. Create opportunities for 91亚色鈥檚 diversity to fuel creativity, insight and understanding
To advance these multi-layered objectives, over the life of this plan the University commits to:
Continuing to build a broader, networked community of learning and mentorship that fosters engagement in intergroup dialogue, respectful, constructive debate and embeds commitment to others鈥 rights irrespective of differences
Supporting reconciliation and transformation through application of the Indigenous Framework Principles
Cultivating inclusive teaching and learning environments that nurture multiple and intersectional ways of knowing, including the incorporation of DEDI principles in curriculum and programs
Fostering inclusive and equitable research environments that nurture multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary perspectives and knowledges, creating and sustaining diverse research teams and research programs in traditionally equity-deserving settings
Promoting a complement of faculty, staff, administrators and leaders that is representative of the University鈥檚 diversity and equity-deserving communities
